e-Waste explained by Prof. Girija Shankar Sahoo

Now a day there is one more pollution which becomes serious issue for all nations, this is known as E-waste. E-Waste is generally waste generated by electronic material after their use. Although computers and mobile constitute more than half the waste generated and the other electronic material TV sets, calculators, watches, music systems and transistors make up a substantial portion waste. Some of electronic material that makes their way to resale goods markets, some of the rest are converted into scrap. Metals like iron and copper wires are separated from the plastic, leading to emission of hazardous gases.

A national study reveals about the volume of e-waste is grew by an alarming 15% in one year. Total volume of e-waste now increase to 7,500 metric tonnes per year and it could double in the next five years. Nearly 90% of the waste considered is sold as scraps that lead for air pollution. Anti-pollution norms that form by government are rarely followed by scrap dealers. All they are not even aware of the harmful chemicals that they are releasing into the air.  The rate at which e-waste generation is rising that rapidly hazardous gases in the environment such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and acidic fumes while melting plastics, this increases a major health problem. Some of Liquid effluents from metals are released into the civic sewers; they are dangerous for human being.

However all we are very concern about this issue, still small part of the waste is recycled. Computers and electronic material lend more easily to re-use than other electronic items. However all item not able recycled such as refrigerators, a very small percentage is actually fit for recycling. Lake of awareness and technology that we need to recycle these products is not available to the scrap dealers. So for protect our environment product manufacturing company, government and public welfare firm also should think on it. Citizen has more responsibilities to recycling of their electronic material.
